September 1st.?A boy, aged 12, has been ill for three days ; the muscular system generally is affected with spasm, which ia increased on making any exertion ; he is only able to protrude the tip of his tongue, and the attempt causes great spasm of the face and neck. His father attributes the attack to the effect of the cold east wind. Pulse 95, temperature natural, bowels confined. Ho was ordered a castor-oil enema, but the attempt to administer it caused so much spasm that it was not persevered with. At 8 a.m., he took 20 grains of hydrate of chloral in peppermint water, which was swallowed with some difficulty ; he fell asleep about half an hour afterwards, and at noon ho
